UFC veterans Roan
Carneiro and Yves Edwards were both victorious at Friday's Shine Fights
sophomore effort, the "Shine 2: American Top Team vs. The World"
event.
The show took place at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, Fla.,
and aired via online pay-per-view.
Carneiro and Edwards are both
representatives of the Florida-based American Top Team. Half of the fights on
the eight-bout lineup featured one ATT fighter, and ATT made it a clean sweep,
4-0.
In the night's main event, Carneiro (13-8), who fought for the first
time since a five-fight stint and September 2008 release from the UFC, scored a
three-round unanimous decision win over Jorge Patino (21-12-1), a one-time PRIDE
and UFC fighter, via scores of 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28. Carneiro nearly ended
with an armbar in the first, but Patino popped him with an illegal kick to the
face. Carneiro ultimately settled for the decision win.
Journeyman and
longtime veteran Edwards (35-15-1), meanwhile, rebounded from back-to-back
losses in EliteXC and Strikeforce for a second-round choke of James Warfield
(15-4).
Warfield proved a game opponent and nearly secured a rear-naked
choke of his own in the first round, but Edwards ultimately scored the takedown
and worked extensively for the fight-ending triangle choke in the second to
deliver the Wisconsin veteran just his 13th loss in his past 15 fights.
As a team, American Top Team went 4-0 on the night with additional wins
from longtime PRIDE fighter Luiz Firmino (13-4), who stopped Ryan Healy (10-6-1)
via unanimous decision, and Micah Miller (13-3), who picked up a second-round
submission victory over Anthony Morrison (8-7).
Additionally, former
Green Bay Packers running back Herbert Goodman (9-7) topped one-time Bellator
fighter James Brasco (4-2) via TKO, and former University of Miami football
player Brian Fuery (1-0) had a successful pro debut and topped Phil Friedman
(1-2) via first-round neck crank.
